My God-Ordained Google Reader

I have a Google Reader account in which I have several categories.  As I was skimming through my “Christian” category, I found an interesting progression:

The first entry included a quote from Jonathan Edwards.  It always takes me a while to get past the 18th century style of writing, but what I got from it was that when we sing to God, we feel our love for Him.  I understand that, and I’ve experienced that.

Good feelings – I like them.

That was followed by a series of news articles from International Christian Concern (Voice of the Martyrs) about what’s going on in the Christian community in the world.  Here are the headlines from that list:

  • Sectarian Violence in Egypt Diverting Attention From Political Opposition
  • Crackdown follows new Religion Law
  • Church leaders demand arrest of anti-Christian attackers
  • Nancy Pelosi disappoints; dialogue on climate, not human rights
  • Government Destroys First Christian Degar Church
  • Eritrea Protest Vigil in London
  • Assyrian Politician Detained, Threatened By Kurdish Security in Iraq
  • Pastors Arrested For Use Of Loudspeakers
  • Couple: County Trying To Stop Home Bible Studies
  • Iranian Security Officers Arrest Five Christian Converts from Islam
  • Beaten by His Own Family for His Faith in Christ

Bad feelings – I don’t like them.

The next one in line was The Meaning of God’s Will (pt. 4) by R.C. Sproul.  Here he talked about “dispositional will”, that is, that he may decree what he does not enjoy.  Although the application in this article was the principle that “God is not willing that any should perish” (2 Peter 3:9), it reminded me of another principle, that all things work together for good to those who are called by God.

Then (back to the top) a “praise” song came to mind – Bobby McFerrin’s “Don’t Worry, Be Happy”, only I changed the title a bit to “Be anxious for nothing, enjoy Jesus”.  I may have to come up with alternate lyrics someday.
